What if there’s nothing else you need to do
And nothing else you need to change.
No amount of therapy
or yoga
or mediation
or sleep
or prayer
or income generation
or productivity.
And no amount of reading the right books
or writing the right books
or having the right friends
or losing that extra weight
or lifting those sagging parts
or lifting your sagging spirit.
And no amount of cleanliness in your home
or fullness of your social calendar
or greater or lesser focus on other people
or kindness to your dear ones
or vegetables consumed
or healing of the conflict with your kids or partner or friends
- what if there isn’t any alteration or endeavor whatsoever
that could make you any more lovable
or holy
or miraculous
or dear
than you actually already are?

Everything Belongs
Seasons are universal. Treat yours uniquely.

so perfect! love this!

Oh, what a sigh of relief that would be, Kristin. Ahhhhh. Perhaps we can each work to make it so, by surrendering to what i. I can relate to so many of those worries you stated. Why do we do this to ourselves? Always striving? Struggling? Would we be “okay” if we didn’t focus so much on those “things”? A lot to think about.
Comment by Jill — February 23, 2011 @ 7:23 pmAll I can say it thank you! I read this after my son had an epic meltdown, and while I held it together and helped him through it, I found myself shaky and upset after he went to bed with a glass of wine in one hand and a palmful of chocolate chips in the other … until I read your post. THANK YOU!!!!! I am hanging this one up!
xoxo

Comment by Kat — February 24, 2011 @ 3:09 pmThat’s just about the most radical thing I’ve ever read.
I think I will have to stop and sit with it for a while… and let it seep in….
Thank you.

Comment by GailNHB — February 25, 2011 @ 7:56 pmWhat if I actually lived as though these words are true? And they certainly ARE true!
the other day a good friend told me that i’ve already fulfilled my obligation to make the world a better place. and it didn’t happen recently. it happened the moment i was born and my parents looked into my eyes and their hearts swelled with joy. from that moment forward, i had done and become and given enough.
it’s all true.
so much love to you. this site is rocking wonders!
Comment by rachael maddox — February 26, 2011 @ 12:15 pmI am blown away. I think, somewhere deep inside myself, I might have known this but to see it, right in front of me, has really blown me away. I hope you don’t mind but I’d like to print this out and hang it on my studio wall as a reminder.
Wow, I really am enough, right now. *sigh* Thank you!!!
Peace & Love,
